Eligibility Criteria of Assam Police Recruitment
Citizenship and Residency: Applicants must be citizens of India and permanent residents of Assam. Selected applicants will be required to submit proof of residence after publication of the final select list. However, applicants belonging to SC, ST, and OBC/MOBC categories are exempted from submitting such certificates.
Employment Exchange Registration: All applicants must be registered with an Employment Exchange located in Assam.
Language Proficiency: Applicants must speak Assamese or any other state language fluently.
Educational Qualification
Constable (UB): Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary (Class XII) from a government-recognized Board or Council.
Constable (AB): Candidates must have passed HSLC or Class X from a government-recognized Board or Council.
Driver Constable and Driver Posts: Candidates must have passed HSLC or equivalent examination with a valid driving licence for LMV, MMV, or HMV as per specific post requirements.
Sub Inspector (UB) and Assistant Jailor: Candidates must be graduates in Arts, Science, Commerce, or equivalent from a recognized college or institution affiliated to a recognized university.
Station Officer and Squad Commander: Candidates must have a B.Sc. with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized institution.
Sub Inspector of Police (Communication): Candidates must have B.Sc. in Electronics Science, IT, or Computer Science, or relevant diploma with work experience, or MCA, or B.E./B.Tech in related fields.
Forester Grade-I: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
Safai Karmachari: Minimum Class VI passed from a recognized school. The maximum qualification allowed is HSSLC or Class XII.
Grade IV Posts (Cook, Barber, Water Carrier, etc.): Minimum Class VIII passed with maximum qualification of HSSLC or Class XII. Some posts require specific trade certificates or experience.
Age Limit
Constable (UB & AB): Candidates must be between 18 and 26 years as on 1 January 2026. This means candidates born between 1 January 2000 and 1 January 2008 are eligible. You can use our Age Calculator to verify your eligibility.
Driver Constable and Driver Posts: Age must be between 18 and 25 years as on 1 January 2026 for most posts. Driver in Forest Department has an upper age limit of 40 years.
Sub Inspector (UB) and Sub Inspector of Police (Communication): Age must be between 20 and 26 years as on 1 January 2026.
Station Officer and Squad Commander: Age must be between 20 and 24 years as on 1 January 2026.
Sub Inspector (AB) in Commando Battalions: Age must be between 20 and 24 years as on 1 January 2026.
Constable (AB) in Commando Battalions: Age must be between 18 and 21 years as on 1 January 2026.
Assistant Jailor, Jail Warder, and Other Posts: Age must be between 18/21 and 40 years as on 1 January 2026 depending on the specific post.
Age Relaxation: Upper age limit relaxation of 5 years is provided for SC, ST (P), and ST (H) category candidates. OBC/MOBC category candidates get 3 years of age relaxation. Additional relaxations are available for Home Guards with 3 years of service (3 years), Ex-Servicemen (2 years for specific posts), Former Members of Militant Organizations (10 years), SPOs (10 years), and sports persons (3 years).

Note: Physical standards for Commando Battalion posts are higher. Male candidates must have minimum height of 167 cm for General category and 85 cm chest (normal) with 5 cm expansion.
Medical Standards
Applicants must be in good mental and bodily health. They must be free from physical deformities and diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hernia, piles, respiratory diseases, knock-knee, flat foot, or any other physical deformity that may interfere with efficient performance of duties. Applicants should not be colour blind or squint-eyed. The distance vision should be 6/6 for at least one eye and not poorer than 6/9 for the other without correction. Near vision should be normal. Varicose vein shall be considered as temporary disqualification.
Selection Process
The selection process varies based on the post applied for. The general selection procedure includes the following stages:
For Constable Posts: Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Medical Examination, Physical Standard Test (PST), Written Test, and Oral/Viva-Voce. For Constable (AB) male candidates, PET includes Chin Up test and carries 60 marks. For Constable (UB) and female candidates, PET carries 40 marks.
For Sub Inspector Posts: Written Test (100 marks), Physical Efficiency Test (40 marks), NCC Certificate weightage (maximum 5 marks), and Oral/Viva-Voce (5 marks). Total marks: 150.
For Driver Posts: Physical Efficiency Test, Medical Examination, Physical Standard Test, Driving Test (Skill Test) carrying 10 marks, Written Test, NCC weightage, and Oral/Viva-Voce.
For Commando Battalion Posts: Physical Efficiency Test (with more rigorous standards), Written Test (only for SI), and Psychometric Test carrying 20 marks.
For Safai Karmachari and Grade IV Posts: Medical Examination, Physical Standard Test, and Trade Proficiency Test carrying 50 marks with 33% as pass marks.
For Forest Guards and Related Posts: Physical Efficiency Test, Medical Examination, Physical Standard Test, Written Test, Walking Test (for Forester Grade-I and Forest Guard), and Oral/Viva-Voce.
How to Apply for Assam Police Recruitment?
Candidates can apply online through the Assam Police Common Application Portal (APCAP) at apcap.in. The application process is completely online, and there is no application fee. Follow the steps below to complete your application successfully:
Step 1: Register on the Portal
Visit the official web portal at apcap.in and click on the registration link. Use only one valid mobile number for registration. Using multiple mobile numbers will result in cancellation of your application. Enter your name exactly as written on your HSLC certificate, along with your father’s name and mother’s name. Provide your Employment Exchange Number, highest qualification, permanent district, gender, caste/category, date of birth, and Aadhaar number. After successful registration, you will receive an Application ID. Save this ID safely as you will need it throughout the recruitment process.
Step 2: Complete Your Application
Login to the portal using your Application ID or registered mobile number along with your date of birth. Keep your mobile number active throughout the recruitment process. Once logged in, select the post you want to apply for and upload all required documents. Choose your post preferences if applying for multiple posts. Fill in all personal details carefully and upload your photograph and signature following the specified size and format requirements. Your photograph should be maximum 450 KB in JPG or PNG format, and signature should be maximum 100 KB. Enter your academic details accurately. Finally, generate OTP to download your acknowledgement slip.
